The best cross-platform media player I have ever come across is probably the VLC media player. This media player can play anything I throw at it. In fact, I don’t know what it can’t play. I’ve tried quite a few other media players and yet I always find myself going back to this program. Oh yeah, here comes my favourite part: it’s FREE (ahh… the power of open source). You can stream video to it, you can even play DVDs with it. Now, this program is so simple to use, I believe anyone can use it. The program may not look pretty to everyone but there are plenty of skins to make it look a little prettier. The program is so light weight that it will run quite well even on your older, slower machines. Keep in mind that this program is not built to compete with your music player like iTunes (if you use Windows or Mac) or Amarok (if you use [Ubuntu] Linux). So for all my music I use one of those programs, and if I want to do anything else, I use VLC.
