I came across a nice little game a few weeks ago called Neverball. Neverball is a puzzle game in which you tilt the floor in order to move a ball around and run over coins. The game comes with 75 levels, so it should keep you busy for a little while. Once you get to the challenging levels, things become quite fun. Moving platforms and hitting ramps are just a couple of reasons this game is so addicting.

Neverball is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Download it here.

Quick tip: use the keyboard arrows to get a feel for the game. When you’re up for a challenge, try using the mouse instead.

If you have a Mac…

Are you using Ubuntu and want to use the latest versions of Mozilla’s Firefox and Thunderbird? If you don’t want to wait for the Ubuntu repositories to be updated, you can use repositories straight from Mozilla. Check out the Ubuntu wiki for more information on installing the new versions of Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. The MozillaTeam also has a wiki page that lists all the Ubuntu packages.

For Hardy users, add the following repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/ubuntu hardy main universe
For Gutsy users, add the following repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list

facebook logoFacebook’s new privacy options are nice to see now that facebook is open to everyone. When I first joined facebook it had only just come available to high school students. I thought it wasn’t a bad idea at the time as I was only a college freshmen and I still had friends in high school. Now however, facebook is available to anyone with an email address. My friends are on facebook, my parents are on facebook, and even my grandparents are on facebook. As a college student this was a little concerning as I liked to keep at least some of my college experience away from my parents. Now, with the new privacy settings I can be ‘friends’ with…

If you are like me and spend most of your time running Linux, then you are probably accustomed to using virtual desktops. Virtual desktops are great for being able to spread out your work. On the rare occasion that I boot into Windows, I almost always try to change virtual desktops by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right. Then I realize I am in Windows and I don’t have the cube that I love so dearly.

To help with the limited desktop space in Windows, I have found a program called Yod’m 3D (Yet Another Desktop Manager 3D). Yod’m 3D allows you to have 4 desktops in the shape of a cube. To change between desktops you simply press a keystroke of your choice…

deluge

Deluge is light weight BitTorrent client for Windows, Linux, and Mac. The makers of Deluge realize that you use your computer for much more than just downloading. Therefore, why should you use a BitTorrent client that is so system intensive you can’t use your computer for anything else? The answer is you shouldn’t. To fix this they created Deluge.

What I love the most about Deluge is that it is simple and easy to use. The first time you run the program it will guide you through a short configuration of the preferences. If you aren’t sure what one of the preferences means, simply hover your mouse over that setting and a dialog box will appear…

As a student, I spend a lot of time in the library or out of my room with my laptop. Sometimes it becomes a bit of a hassle when I feel the need for a snack or I have to use the rest room because I don’t like leaving my laptop unattended. There is however a program that might help with that. iAlertU is a FREE program that is essentially a car alarm for your Macbook or Macbook Pro. iAlertU makes use of the motion sensing technology already built into your laptop. If someone were to press a key, move the laptop, or even unplug the laptop, iAlertU will take a picture with your webcam and automatically email it to you and it will make a car alarm type noise…

Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging program that works with Windows, Linux, and Unix based systems. When I say it is a multi-protocol messenger, I mean that it works with:

AIM

Google Talk
Groupwise
ICQ

IRC
MSN
MySpaceIM
QQ
SILC

SIMPLE
Sametime
XMPP
Yahoo!
Zephyr

With pidgin you can be logged into multiple accounts at the same time. You can be instant messaging your friend on AIM and another friend on Yahoo! at the same time. Pidgin supports things like file transfer and away messages. With the buddy pounce feature you can have it set to play a sound, start a program, or even send a message when a friend comes online, signs off, or comes away from being idle…
