You’ve decided to give Linux a try, so you downloaded the .ISO from your favorite distribution (Ubuntu *cough, cough*). The problem is, you don’t know how to burn the file to a CD or DVD. Since Windows XP does not have the ability to burn .ISO files by default, you will need to download a program with this capability. This post will show you how to burn .ISO files to a CD or DVD using CDBurnerXP in Windows XP.
- Download the .ISO in which you would like to burn. Be sure to click ‘Save File‘ and save it in a folder that can easily be accessed, such as the Desktop.
- Download and install an ISO burner such as CDBurnerXP
- Open CDBurnerXP, and choose ‘Create Data CD/DVD‘ at the pop-up window.
-
Next, click ‘File‘ and then select ‘Burn disc from ISO file…‘ from the drop down menu. This minimize the main window and open a window called ‘Write ISO Image.
- Click ‘…‘ to select the ISO you would like to burn. Then, navigate to the folder where the .ISO file is located.
- Choose a burning speed. It is usually best to choose a slower speed such as 4x or 6x. You can however choose to burn at the fastest speed that your CD/DVD burner will allow. However, this will increase the chance of errors occurring during the burning process.
- Select ‘Finalize disc‘
- Insert a blank CD/DVD into your CD/DVD tray.
- Click ‘Burn disc‘ to burn your .ISO file to disc.
- Now, just sit back and let your computer do the work. Once the disc is done burning check to make sure that there were no errors during the burning process.
