  1. First you need an .ISO to burn. This can be one that you downloaded (Linux distribution) or from a movie you want to back up. Once you have your .ISO, navigate to that file using your file browser.
  2. Right click on the file and choose “Open with CD/DVD Creator.” This will open the CD/DVD creator window entitled “Write to Disc”. There you can choose what to name the CD/DVD and the burn speed.
  3. Finally, click “Write.” This will start the burning process. Now all you have to do is wait for your CD/DVD to finish burning.

The problem is, you don’t know how to burn the file to a CD or DVD. Since Windows XP does not have the ability to burn .ISO files by default, you will need to download a program with this capability. This post will show you how to burn .ISO files to a CD or DVD using CDBurnerXP in Windows XP.

  1. Download the .ISO in which you would like to burn. Be sure to click ‘Save File‘ and save it in a folder that can easily be accessed, such as the Desktop.
  2. Download and install an ISO burner such as CDBurnerXP
  3. Open CDBurnerXP, and choose ‘Create Data CD/DVD‘ at the pop-up window.

  4. Next, click ‘File‘ and then select ‘Burn disc from ISO file…‘ from the drop down menu. This minimize the main window and open a window called ‘Write ISO Image.

  5. Click ‘…‘ to select the ISO you would like to burn. Then, navigate to the folder where the .ISO file is located.
  6. Choose a burning speed. It is usually best to choose a slower speed such as 4x or 6x. You can however choose to burn at the fastest speed that your CD/DVD burner will allow. However, this will increase the chance of errors occurring during the burning process.
  7. Select ‘Finalize disc‘
  8. Insert a blank CD/DVD into your CD/DVD tray.

  9. Click ‘Burn disc‘ to burn your .ISO file to disc.
  10. Now, just sit back and let your computer do the work. Once the disc is done burning check to make sure that there were no errors during the burning process.
